What is Endoscopic Dilatation?
Endoscopic dilatation is a procedure used to treat narrowed areas (strictures) in the esophagus, stomach, or intestines. These strictures can be caused by various conditions like achalasia, Crohn’s disease, gastrointestinal cancer, or inflammatory conditions. The procedure involves using a special balloon or other dilating devices to widen the narrowed passage, making it easier for food and fluids to pass through.
Relieves swallowing difficulties: Conditions like achalasia or strictures in the esophagus can make it difficult to swallow food or liquids, causing discomfort and weight loss.
Improves digestion: Dilating the narrowed areas helps restore normal digestive function, allowing food to pass through the digestive tract more easily.
Minimally invasive: Unlike traditional surgery, endoscopic dilatation is a non-surgical procedure that requires no large incisions, reducing recovery time and discomfort.
Initial Consultation: If you’re experiencing symptoms like difficulty swallowing, nausea, or vomiting, our gastroenterologists will perform diagnostic tests such as endoscopy or imaging to assess the cause.
Dilatation: Using an endoscope, a small balloon or dilator is inserted into the narrowed area. The balloon is inflated to gently widen the passage, relieving the stricture.
Post-Procedure Care: After the procedure, patients can usually go home the same day with minimal discomfort. We will provide guidelines to ensure the best recovery and prevent re-narrowing.
